Amid political alignments and scheming, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect.
The dissolution, announced by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Government House Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli, on his official Facebook page, marks a significant development in the state’s political landscape.
Briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Ibrahim Njodi, confirmed the development, noting that the decision was taken to allow those interested in contesting political offices to pursue their ambitions.
According to Njodi, the council, during an extraordinary session, reviewed its performance over the past two and a half years and rated itself highly.
He said the governor directed that the council be dissolved with effect from April 9, 2026, while handing over in ministries must be completed not later than April 10, 2026.
Njodi explained that the action implies that political appointees, public servants and civil servants who intend to contest elections are free to resign their positions on or before April 10, 2026.
“Consequently, all commissioners are hereby directed to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to the Permanent Secretaries by Friday, April 10, 2026.
“Furthermore, all government appointees, including political office holders and aides who intend to contest any elective position in the 2027 general elections, are to resign their appointments on or before Friday, April 10, 2026,” he said.
He added that the governor expressed appreciation to the outgoing members of the State Executive Council and other affected appointees for their dedication, commitment and service to the state.
Njodi said the governor acknowledged their contributions to the administration’s achievements across various sectors and wished them well in their future endeavours.
Meanwhile, the governor is expected to reconstitute the council in the coming days to ensure continuity in governance and sustain ongoing programmes.(The news pointer)
